The Icing On The Cookie

Hand me a microphone, and perhaps, I won't nail every note like CeCe Winans or Nicole Binion (some of my favorite female vocalists), but I will be a whole lot more useful than if you hand me a recipe and a spatula! In fact, one time, trying to be a Betty Crocker early in my marriage, I almost burned down the whole house trying to bake a cake. Trust me when I say baking is not my strong point! However, when my daughter came to me with her easy bake oven she had gotten for Christmas, I thought to myself, "how hard can it be?" We unwrapped all the pieces, made sure everything was clean and pulled out all the ingredients, but, all Jada could think about, was icing and decorating the cookie we were making. She wanted to skip all the steps and just make the icing, decorate, and eat! She didn't want to have to measure the oil, she didn't want to be bothered with cracking eggs. The look on her face when I told her, she then had to wait while it baked said, "you have to be kidding me!" and of course the clean-up was no where near on her radar. It was at that moment, a mirror was presented to me. Many, including myself, want to skip necessary steps and components to their icing on the cookie (metaphorically speaking). I know, I know, I don"t want to hear this, let alone accept it! We are all to ready to just throw away the hopes of ever partaking of that warm cookie with delectable icing on top. Did I mention how much I love cookies? Give me a warm cookie and a glass of cold milk and I am a happy girl! Sorry, got carried away with the vision of cookies in my head!!! Which ironically is such a teachable point! The prophet Habakkak wrote:

Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. (Habakkuk 2:2, 3 NKJV)

What have you given up on? What did you decide, was just too hard to fight for? Do you really believe the lie that you just never will? Our culture has forgotten the Habakkuk Principle. God's people especially. Focus on your cookie, I mean vision. Self talk that you will achieve your goals! Yes, there may be eggs to crack and flour to measure. There may even be a mess to clean-up along the way and waiting is definitely going to be apart of the journey, so go ahead and make provision for that, too. "The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it will SPEAK, and it will not LIE. Though it TARRIES, WAIT for it; Because it will SURELY come!!!!!!" I love you all, please don't give up. Keep moving forward! You can do it!
